About Us

- - Our Mission Together - -

St. John’s United Church of Christ is a loving, supportive, Christ-centered family, glorifying God, proclaiming the Gospel, nurturing growth in faith, and serving God’s children throughout the world.

- - Our History - -

St. John’s Church was the first to permanently establish religious services, and the first to erect a church building, in the borough of Red Lion.  From its beginnings in 1874 when Alice Dietz organized the first Sunday School, St. John’s has grown - in membership, in its buildings, and in its outreach to the Red Lion area community.

First known as St. John’s Reformed Church, we became St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, following a merger in 1934. Today, we are St. John’s United Church of Christ. The UCC was formed in 1957 with the merger of the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Church.

During the year 2024, we will witness the love of our Lord and Savior for our 142 years in the borough of Red Lion.

- - What does MEMBERSHIP Mean? - -

As a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, you belong. You are a member of the Christian Church - a living group of persons united by the love of God given through Jesus Christ.

You belong to a family that is two thousand years old, with roots again as old.

You belong to a people that has had a great impact upon the history of the world.

You stand in the great tradition and heritage of those early followers of the Way who “turned the world upside down” (Acts 17:6).

You are a part of a movement - God’s - that offers meaning to life and Life to life, dealing not only with the present, but the future as well.

As members of St. John’s United Church of Christ, we belong to each other. We are here to share each other’s sorrows and joys.
